During our bike ride, we had a guest book where about 200 people left us messages.  Fun to read each night after biking.  This was before Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc.  The guestbook has since been deleted.  But due to the miraculous nature of the internet and how nothing posted is every "gone", a few messages have been found thanks to web.archive.org and the WayBackMachine

We met at the UVa gathering the other day. This was the first opportunity I had (wet weather) to see your site and view the route. I must admit I am intrigued with the possibility.

We have your friends staying with us, the Schoensteins, with all their family. When they heard I plan to bicycle across America for my 60th birthday, they of course told me about you! I have had a brief look at your web site and will return to it later. I am sure it will give me inspiration and determination as I spend the next 5 years preparing for this adventure!

I am one of Melanie Lenz' coworkers. She told me about your trip shortly after you started. I have been checking your progress periodically. I hope you leave the web site up for awhile because I want to savor it and share it with friends.

Congratulations on a dream come true. The trip was a great idea, but having the web site to document your progress with photos, maps, and 3 journals is extra special.

Some day when I retire (perhaps not too many years from now)I would like to emulate your trip, or something similar. What a great experience. Too bad that Eric couldn't make it all the way.

We're thrilled for all of you! I feel like we've gotten to know you over these last few weeks of reading your journals more than during the 14 years we've spent as your next-door neighbors. We look forward to seeing you and showing you all the landscaping we've had done!

After flying for the last 12 days got home last night. Spent all morning reading your journals, looking at your pictures and following you on the map. When you originally talked about doing this I couldn't even imaging that this was possible. I am just in awe regarding your accomplishments. What a great adventure.

Went over to your house and everything is ok at 2409. Plants are watered and the mail and newspaper is picked up.

Only a few more days before you reach your destination.

Happy trails

Hi Tom and Lucille:

Just got back to my commuter place in St. Louis and couldn't wait to read your journals. Boy, sound like the going has been a little tough for the last couple of days because of weather and flat tires.

Love all your discriptions of your day's events. Sounds like a great slice of Americana.

Talked to Bob and he says all is well at 2409. He went over and did a little watering and picked up the free paper.

Amarican Airlines is furloughing over 3000 Flight Attendants on July 1. I'll be one of them. With all four of us retired now how about taking up playing some bridge again? Tom would have to teach us since it has been many, many moons since Bob and I have played.

Tomorrow I will be leaving on another 4-day trip before trying to commute home on the 29th. Flights are very full because of Memorial weekend and I may not get on. We'll see.

Take care

Hey Kids! Sounds like you keep rolling along. I had a very productive weekend. We moved a couple of van loads of stuff. Finished taking up the floor. Melanie cleaned the kitchen. Helen painted the kitchen. I fixed the pool heater, worked on the sprinkler system and cut down a rather large bush. We moved all the bikes except one. I think I miss the riding. I hope to ride to work this week. Wishing I was there. Eric

Hi, I enjoying your journals, we were concerned about the weather, Glad to see everything is working out ok. To bad Eric couldn't have make the entire trip. I was quite excited about the tractor junk yard, I bet there are some real treasures there. Were all following your journey, be careful.

We have been following your progress daily. Sounds like the weather-gods have been kind to you so far - unless we have missed something ....... Too bad Eric had to leave - however, we are sure it was so great to have him along as far as OK. This web site is such a great idea - we all can read about your adventure and say, from the comfort of our chairs, "I;'ll do that some day", knowing all along that we won't. Our best congratulations to Tom, Eric and Lucille - yes, Lucille does have a car and air conditioning but as several of our long-distance biking friends say, "the; person(s) who travels with us provides such wonderful peace of mind - and so much more in terms of food, scouting, logistics, etc., etc. - that she/he is worth their weight in gold".

Love to you all, Bill and Mary-Mignon
